Eilean Glas Lighthouse, situated on the picturesque island of Scalpay in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, is a historic maritime beacon with a rich and enduring legacy. First lit in 1789, it is one of Scotland's oldest lighthouses and has served as a vital navigational aid for sailors navigating the treacherous waters of the North Atlantic. The lighthouse derives its name from the Scottish Gaelic "Eilean Glas," meaning "Green Island," owing to the verdant landscape surrounding it. Its distinctive white tower, adorned with three red bands, rises 38 meters above sea level and emits a powerful white flash every 10 seconds, visible for up to 24 nautical miles. The lighthouse has witnessed countless maritime adventures and continues to stand as a symbol of safety and maritime history, attracting visitors with its captivating views and rich maritime heritage.
